If
you're considering replacing your tired plaster with new plaster,
consider our Premium Plaster. What makes it premium? More quartz,
less marble sand. Regular plaster is a mixture of cement and
sand, usually marble sand (calcium carbonate). Water and pool
chemicals, mainly acid, react to the calcium carbonate and actually
eat away at your plaster surface. That process, on an almost
microscopic level, is what pits and etches a plaster surface,
creating nice little homes for algae and bacteria.

Most premium plaster products out there simply add pozzolans
and polymers to bond with and protect the weakest element of
your plaster, the marble sand. We also add pozzolans and polymers,
but we go one important step further. We replace the marble
with quartz. Our Premium Plaster is unique in its quartz content:
a whopping 86% of the material in our Premium Plaster is quartz,
NOT marble sand.
Why is that important? Hardness. Quartz is rated an "7"
on the Mol hardness scale (diamond is rated a "10"). Calcium carbonate (marble sand) is rated
a "3". Quartz
does not react to the water or chemicals in your pool. The result:
a longer-lasting pool surface.
The pictures above show how a chunk of quartz and a chunk of marble
react to Muriatic acid (pool acid). Actually, the quartz doesn't
react. Click on the link for a 15 second video of a similar demonstration,
but with quartz and marble sand (you won't believe your eyes!).
The quartz is poured first, then the marble sand.
