Welcome!

Posted on Jan 20 2011

We have specialized in swimming pool remodeling since 1990.  It’s all we do.  We built our company, from the ground up, to remodel pools.  This means we’re a little different than the typical pool contractor.

We use our own interior surface, tile and plumbing crews.  We have more superintendents in the field than companies twice our size.  And our owners are in just about every backyard.  Why?!  Because remodeling is full of little surprises.  Any one of which, if handled poorly, can cause you problems down the road.  Well over half our business comes from referrals by happy customers.  And we’d like to keep it that way.  So, we’ll continue to be different than most pool contractors out there so, if we have the privilege of doing your project, you’ll be happy with your pool and happy with us.  And you’ll tell your friends.

How can you tell the difference between pool contractors?  Before we give you 7 questions to ask every contractor, here are some important pages you’ll want to visit while you’re here:

7 Questions to Ask Every Pool Contractor You Consider:

1.  How long have you been in business?  Longevity doesn’t mean they’re a great contractor, but it does mean they’ll probably be around long enough to honor their warranty if you have a problem.

2.  What is your ROC number (Registrar of Contractors) and how old is it?  Lots of contractors close out an ROC number when they get too many complaints and start fresh with a new number (Gee, see, zero complaints!).   You would do well to compare the number of years on their ROC number to the years they’ve been in business.  And check the ROC record for each contractor.

3.  What percentage of your business is pool remodeling?  If you are talking to primarily a new pool construction company, pool remodeling may be an afterthought.  You don’t want your project to be an afterthought.

4.  What is your warranty?  Ask to see it.  Then read it.  One company has a “20 year warranty” on their pebble surface.  But what that means is they warranty the pebbles for 20 years.  How long for material (ALL material) and how long for labor?  And is the warranty pro-rated?

5.  What does the owner do every day – what’s his or her job?  Is it running the business behind a desk or out in the field checking jobs?

6.  Do you use your own crews?   There are “pool remodeling contractors” who are a guy, a pickup truck and a fax machine.  He uses freelance crews for each phase of the project, so nobody truly cares about your pool.

7.  Do you have a showroom – can I come to your office?  A contractor doesn’t need a big building to be good, but you can learn a lot about them by seeing their place of business.

8.  Bonus. . .Actually, this isn’t a question, but it’s important.  Trust your instincts.  If you don’t have a good feeling about the estimator who’s giving you the quote, that feeling probably won’t get better during the project.  If it sounds too good to be true it probably isn’t.
